Tasting Change – Where Meals Become Community

Good food is important for our health and wellbeing and it has a wonderful way of bringing people together.

Tasting Change is The Health Agency’s community food programme, helping local people access affordable, nutritious food, build confidence in cooking and healthy eating, and connect with others in their community.

Through the Sunflower Pantry, Community Lunch, cooking workshops, community events and volunteering, we create opportunities for people to eat well, learn new skills, meet others and share good food together.

Whether you want to make your weekly food budget go further, enjoy a meal with neighbours, try some new recipes or get involved in your community, there’s a place for you at Tasting Change.

The Sunflower Pantry – Part of the UK-wide Your Local Pantry network

Tuesdays: 9am–12.30pm and 5pm–6.30pm.  Location: Gate 55, 55 Sighthill Road, Edinburgh, EH11 4PB

The Sunflower Pantry helps make your weekly food budget go further, while giving you choice over the food you take home.

For just £4.50 per visit, members can choose ten grocery items, including chilled and frozen foods and store-cupboard favourites. Whether you’re looking for something for a healthy breakfast, a nourishing lunch or the ingredients for a hearty family meal, there’s always a variety to choose from.  Fresh fruit and vegetables are available free of charge, along with pet food when available.

The Pantry is a friendly and welcoming place to shop, and membership is open to local people who want to make their weekly food budget stretch further.

Community Lunch

Thursdays at 12.30pm. Location: The Health Agency, Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre

Pull up a chair and join us for a free, freshly prepared lunch and good company.

Our Community Lunch is about more than the food on the plate. It’s a chance to get out of the house, meet people, catch up with familiar faces and enjoy a relaxed meal together.

Everyone is welcome.

Community Events

Tasting Change works with community partners to deliver events and celebrations throughout the year, bringing local people together through good food and shared experiences.

Whether it’s sharing a meal with neighbours, joining a local celebration or taking part in a community activity, our events are an opportunity to meet people, have fun and feel part of your community.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for details of upcoming events.

Healthy Recipes & Cooking Workshops

Want to make your food budget go further, try something different or become more confident in the kitchen?

Our practical cooking workshops are designed to make healthy, affordable cooking easier. Together, we explore simple recipes, ways to make the most of everyday ingredients, reduce food waste and prepare tasty meals without spending a fortune.

You don’t need to be an experienced cook – just come along and have a go. Look out for upcoming workshop dates on our social media.

Get Involved – Volunteer With Us

Local volunteers play an important part in Tasting Change and help us create the friendly, welcoming environment people value.

There are opportunities to help with Pantry sessions, Community Lunches, food collections and community activities. Whether you can give a little time or would like to get involved more regularly, we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, develop skills, gain experience and make a positive contribution to your community.

Check out our Volunteering pages to find out more about current opportunities.
